Multiplayer fun

Hello Veteran pilots and new recruits!

We're thrilled to announce the release of our Steam page for Triplane Furball! Your support through wishlists is greatly appreciated. As we prepare for the game's release, we've been hard at work improving the multiplayer experience for Triplane Furball.

Multiplayer balancing

Autumn has descended on Finland, and the outside average temperatures are steadily moving towards 0 degrees Celsius. What better way to warm up on those creeping, cold autumn evenings than with a 'friendly' match of Triplane Furball! We recently had our first 'official' in-house multiplayer playtesting session with the new build of the game. This marks a long-awaited milestone as many of the underlying core gameplay systems have undergone significant changes after migrating the project to a new GameMaker version.

We are committed to keeping the 'feel of the game' as authentic as possible. However, the multiplayer playtest session showed that there is a lot of tweaking and balancing to be done since all four planes differ significantly from each other in terms of gameplay and feel. Balancing one against the other becomes quite complicated to maintain engaging dogfights. One could even argue that the planes serve entirely different purposes in combat.

Menu User Experience

In addition to enhancing multiplayer gameplay, we've completely overhauled the game's menu system. This not only adds support for localizations, which is a significant 'must-have' for any launch, but we also felt that the user experience needed some redesigning, especially when it comes to the multiplayer menu. Our design requirements are... ambitious!

  • Supporting hot-swapping Player 1 controls with both keyboard and gamepad.
  • Enabling up to 4 players to play on a single keypad or use gamepads.
  • Allowing any mix of players using keyboard and/or gamepads.
  • Offering customizable keybindings for both keyboard and gamepad for each player.
  • Providing customizable player profiles with personal battle statistics (and keybinds).

Thanks to the Jujus input library, the technical aspects were the 'easiest' to implement. However, designing the user interface and the user experience to be readable and easy to understand has required a significant amount of work. To be honest, we are still not very confident if our solution 'hits the mark.' So, once we are confident in getting you all to test the build, please don't hesitate to provide feedback!

Socials

Regarding feedback and other social channels, as we approach the launch of a new demo build, we're excited to introduce new ways for you to get involved and have early access to 'Triplane Furball.' Our primary platform for this will be Discord, where we can connect with our fans and gather valuable feedback. The demo build is a crucial step in our development process, and we eagerly await your thoughts and feedback on the game mechanics, design, and the overall experience.

If you're excited about our game, don't forget to wishlist 'Triplane Furball' on Steam, and please stay tuned for more updates. Your feedback and support are invaluable to us.
